The Alberta Government recently announced a new Express Entry Stream under the Alberta Immigration program: Accelerated Tech Pathway. It allows skilled tech workers an expedited pathway to permanent residency to fulfil labour shortages.
There are more than 3,000 tech companies in the Alberta province. The significant growth of tech companies necessitated the introduction of the Accelerated Tech Pathway to strengthen Alberta’s tech workforce.
The Associate Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, Muhammad Yassen, stated that:
“The new [Alberta Accelerated Tech] immigration pathway will help Alberta’s tech industry attract world-class professionals to grow their businesses and develop the skills of Albertans currently employed in the industry.”
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway, you must meet the following requirements:
Tech Occupations
The Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway is only eligible for those that have an occupation in the tech industry. The following is a list of eligible occupations:
- 0013 Senior managers – financial, communications and other business services
- 0112 Human resources managers
- 0131 Telecommunication carriers manager
- 0211 Engineering managers
- 0212 Architecture and science managers
- 0213 Computer and information systems managers
- 0512 Managers – publishing, motion pictures, broadcasting and performing arts
- 0601 Corporate sales managers
- 1123 Professional occupations in advertising, marketing, and public relations
- 1121 Human resources professionals
- 1223 Human resources and recruitment officers
- 2131 Civil engineers
- 2132 Mechanical engineers
- 2133 Electrical and electronics engineers
- 2147 Computer engineers (except software engineers and designers)
- 2161 Mathematicians, statisticians, and actuaries

Tech Employer
To be considered eligible for the Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway, applicants must be employed by or have a job offer from an employer that is part of the Alberta tech industry. This is defined y the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Codes. The companies that fall into the following categories will be considered eligible for the new tech pathway:
